Option 1: Transfer Your Plates

If you're selling your car and purchasing a new one, you may have the option to transfer your old plates to your new car, provided that your new car falls under the same body type as the previous. This can save you money later when you don’t have to purchase new plates.

Option 2: Keep Your Plates

Opt to keep your license plates for future use. This might be a great option if you plan to purchase another vehicle in the future and want to retain your current plates.

Option 3: Dispose of Your Plates

If you chose option two, but end up never using the plates again, you may need to dispose of them. Typically, you'll need to deface the plates, usually by bending or damaging them, to prevent them from being used fraudulently.

Other Considerations If I Sell My Car in San Antonio

Remember, Sell It 2 Gunn makes the sale process easy and quick. When selling a car, it's crucial that the car's title transfers over to the buyer's name no more than 30 days after it’s sold. We’ve got you covered in this regard.

If the vehicle is sold or traded to us, the vehicle remains in your name until it's sold. To protect you, we file a Vehicle Transfer Notification within 30 days of a sale, and handle all other time-consuming paperwork.

It's important that we properly obtain an official, signed title, an Application for Texas Title, and/or Registration (Form 130-U) with a clearly indicated sales price–plus other necessary documentation. We’ll make sure this happens when we gather detailed records of the transaction, our information, the sale date, and all defining details of your vehicle.
