Selling your car in San Antonio can seem overwhelming, but Gunn Auto Buying Center is here to help. One of the big questions our customers ask is whether they need to notify the DMV after selling their vehicle with us.

Car Selling Tips

How to Notify the Texas DMV

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles requires that you submit a Vehicle Transfer Notification no later than 30 days after you sell your vehicle. This releases you from liability should your former car get into an accident; if you submit the Vehicle Transfer Notification after 30 days, there’s no guarantee you’ll be released from liability. You will be listed on the motor vehicle record until the new owner transfers the title to their name. You can complete the Vehicle Transfer Notification online at the Texas DMV website.

Other Important Steps to Trade My Car

Remember to notify your car insurance company as soon as you sell your vehicle. Otherwise, you’ll continue to get billed for your policy and could run into problems if your former vehicle has a collision.

What’s My Car Worth?

Our San Antonio buying center makes it easy to get an estimate of your vehicle’s value – simply enter your VIN, license plate number, or your car’s make and model to get an approximate sale price. This initial estimate is no obligation – why not see how much money you could get for your used car?

Trade My Car at Gunn

After you get an initial estimate, take your vehicle to one of our four buying center locations. There, we’ll give your car an inspection and provide you with a binding estimate. If you take the deal, you’ll walk away with a check in your pocket from Gunn Auto Buying Center.
